2024 Chippewa District's

Scouting for Food & Service

Together we can make a difference!

January through March 2024

As Scouts it's our duty to do a "Good Turn Daily". Together we can make a difference and that's why we're answering the call to help feed the hungry this Winter across the Chippewa District.

Scouting for Food & Service will make a difference for families across our communities. Units can complete a neighborhood-based food collection campaign and/or reach out to a Food Pantry and provide Service. Help stock and organize shelves or load client cars with food.

It's easy for Scouts of all ages to VOLUNTEER & SERVE and it happens all within your neighborhood! Participate as a unit or as an individual Scout Family. All are welcomed!

Step 1: Food Drive Sign-up

Determine your Scouting for Food route. Typically it is the area of your sponsoring organization. Complete the Scouting for Food Sign-up Form using the RED Button below and reserve Door Hangers to be picked up at a future District Round Table Meeting.

Note: Your District Scouting for Food Chair, Andrea Welch will update the interactive map with your confirmed territory. Viewable interactive map of collection areas.

Step 2: Contact your chosen Food Pantry

At least a few days before your food pickup, contact your Food Pantry of choice to confirm your time of delivery and the pantry’s ability to accept donations. Some food pantries have been identified here:  Local Food Pantries  OR click on the Pantry Search button below to search for a local Food Pantry to support near you.

Step 3: Prepare and Distribute Door Hangers or fliers

The fliers and door hangers take a little preparation AND printing. Be sure to give your Unit time to create the materials needed. Then put on your uniform and with a parent or leader distribute the door hangers to the homes on your Scouting for Food Route. Do not knock on the door, just leave the hanger or flyer announcing our food drive. Choose the option below that works best for you!

Hanger: The hangers require an additional Avery label which will need to be purchased, printed, and added to the front of the hanger in the allotted space. Instructions for printing the additional labels can be found under the HANGERS page on this site.

Customizable Flyer: The Flyer below is an editable flier. You can adjust the Suggested Items based on your chosen Food Pantry's needs and add your Scout's First Name and a parent's phone number before printing.

Step 4: Collect Food & Drop off Food

On your chosen date between Noon and 4:00 pm, Scouts will return to each house on their route and collect all food donations.

Scouts should wear their uniform. Again, do not knock on the front door, just collect the donations that have been left out. After collecting all donations in your neighborhood, drop off items at your chosen Food Pantry.

Step 5: Report Results

Don't forget to record your service hours for a job well done. Submit your totals through the google form below. Information can be submitted as a unit or individually by Scout Family. Information requested includes:

Unit Information

Number of participants

Pounds of food collected

The need for community support right now is real and this food drive will benefit many. Scouting for Food is the leading service program for Boy Scouts of America and is a part of the national BSA program Good Turn for America.

Thank you for participating and for making a difference!
